If you read my last post about our smaller storage barns, you know that I’m pro-SHED and anti-BARN, well not totally, but I do feel there is more utility value in the shed design than there is in the barn design, specifically for the smaller buildings without lofts. Maybe I’ll get into that in a future discussion? In the meantime, let’s get to the standard features on our smaller sheds.

Standard Features On Our Smaller Sheds

  • 4×6 Pressure Treated Runners

  • 2×6 Pressure Treated Floor Joists on 16” Centers

  • ¾” Pressure Treated Subfloors

  • 2×4 Wall Studs on 16” Centers (24” Wall Stud Spacing on Metal Buildings)

  • 6’3″ Side-Wall Height

  • 2×4 Roof Trusses On 24″ Centers

  • Stock Metal or Shingle Roof with Astro Armor Reflective Insulation or 7/16″ OSB Sheathing

  • Gable Vents On Each End Wall

  • Single 4′ Wood Door on Wood and Metal Sheds (36″ Fiberglass Door on Vinyl Sheds)

Why Smaller Sheds Are Great Minimalist Buildings

Our 8’ storage sheds come with a 6’3” side wall height. If you are a taller person don’t worry though, there is over 7’ of interior height at the peak. Since the side wall is straight (unlike the smaller barns), and the gable roof design allows for a taller wall, they will fit those prefab plastic and steel storage shelves, the ones you can purchase online or at bigger hardware stores. This will give you multiple organization options. If you are planning on purchasing a shed from us though, another great option is to have our Amish Mennonite builders install custom tiered wood shelving in your building, maximizing your storage potential and overall storage building value.

Aside from shelving, the straight wall design of our sheds also offer ample height and space to hang brooms, shovels, mops, rakes, weed-eaters, etc. Depending on the size of your shed, you could even hang two kayaks horizontally on their sides along one of the side walls. So even the smaller sheds with the straight walls offer so much more organization and storage possibilities than the smaller barn style buildings.

If you need a bigger storage shed though, and want the ultimate value, I suggest looking at our larger 10’-14’ wide Utility Sheds. They come with an even taller 7’9” side wall height, offering over 8’ of overhead interior space, as well as a set of double doors allowing you to park a riding mower, ATV, motorcycle, etc. in your building plus have room for all of your tools, gas cans, garden stuff, and more.
