It’s funny how even in a world with ever-evolving technology and modern convenience at our fingertips, the allure of tiny house life and off grid living continue to capture the hearts of many. The dream of a quaint retreat nestled amidst nature, where simplicity meets sustainability.
Before we dive into the details and my thoughts on our Lofted Cabins, let’s first look at the standard features that are included with all of our Lofted Cabins.
Lofted Cabin Standard Features

A Country Classic
Our Amish built Lofted Cabins are a great solution for those looking to get into tiny house living, creating the perfect weekend getaway retreat, or even those who just need some extra living space for family or the occasional guest.
The focal point of this building style is the gambrel roof system, which gives it the “barn shaped” appearance and allows for the larger interior loft spaces. With more vertical height in the loft, this design can give you a cozy overhead sleeping area that saves floor space in the main area. There is a bit of give and take though.
To account for the larger lofts, the side walls of the Lofted Cabins are around 6’3” tall, which limits the overhead clearance underneath the lofts. This isn’t an issue in say the center of the building where you still have nearly 10 feet of overhead clearance to the interior peak of the ceiling. It also isn’t an issue under the front loft/front porch area which has a 6’8” clearance to fit the pre-hung entry door, but it could be an issue for taller individuals trying to walk around underneath the rear loft specifically, which only has a 6’3” clearance.

To balance out the shorter overhead height underneath the rear loft, many of our “taller” customers choose to have the depth of their lofts shortened to an 8’ length. This seems to be a pretty good tradeoff because it gives you enough length in the loft for a bigger mattress/sleeping pad, but the loft doesn’t extend out any further than it needs to.
If you aren’t planning on using the rear loft as a sleeping area, you could cut the length of the loft down even more. For storage purposes specifically, most of our customers prefer to have a 4’-6’ deep loft. Like I mentioned about our Lofted Barns and Side-Lofted Barns…the larger the loft area usually just means the more unused space you end up with because nobody really wants to crawl to the back of a storage loft to get out some seasonal item they use once a year.
To add to this subject, I suggest our customers cut down the length of the front loft as well so that it is only as deep as the front porch, which is in that sort of perfect 4’-6’ deep range for a storage loft depending on what size porch you prefer.

I’ve rambled on enough about the lofts in the Lofted Cabins, but that is really the main decision for those looking to make up their minds about whether to get a Lofted Cabin or a Utility Cabin. If you like the barn shape, and the height under the rear storage loft isn’t going to be an issue for you or any loved ones, then our Lofted Cabin is a great choice. If you prefer the taller nearly 8’ side walls and traditional house look of the Utility Cabins with their gable roof system, they are a great choice as well and honestly my favorite of the two.
We also offer deluxe versions of both basic cabin styles called Deluxe Lofted Cabins and Deluxe Utility Cabins that give you extra windows and a more stylish front porch, along with a cool interior area perfect for a kitchen, breakfast nook, or small office/counter space.
